“Supporting children and families in their time of need.”
TheRonald McDonald House Charities of Charleston is a home away from home where families stay while their children undergo extensive medical treatment. Here, parents and children lead a life as normal as possible during their traumatic times without the financial burden of costly hotel and travel expenses.
What started as a 12 bedroom House in 1983 has grown into 27 rooms where families stay while their children are being treated at nearby hospitals. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! The House has touched the lives of over 50,000 moms, dads, brothers and sisters who must travel to Charleston for medical treatment.
While the majority of the families helped are from South Carolina, families from all 50 states and 14 foreign countries have called our facility ‘home’. We have 27 families staying with us almost every night and on average turn away 8 families a night. Our hope is to expand in the near future and need the help of the community to do so.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room at MUSC provides a sanctuary within the walls of
the hospital where family members can rest, read, shower or have a cup of coffee while still being only minutes away from their seriously ill child.
